The Rutte IV cabinet fell due to the persistent asylum issue. After days of crisis consultations, the governing parties VVD, D66, CDA and ChristenUnie have not reached an agreement on a stricter asylum policy.
Earlier this week, the VVD suddenly demanded that there be a plan by the government before the weekend to limit the number of asylum seekers in the Netherlands. Besides that, Prime Minister Mark Rutte also submitted his request, in order to fulfill the promise made earlier at the last VVD congress. There he promised his supporters to limit the influx of asylum seekers.
