VVD: ‘It’s time to make a decision’ Related articles

Tomorrow, the governing parties have to make a decision on a solution to the asylum crisis, says VVD party leader Sophie Hermans. According to her, the time for chatter is over and there needs to be a perspective for agencies welcoming refugees before the summer break.

‘We see that many people come to Holland. Too much, let’s think about the VVD. That number has to go down. In a decent country like Holland, people fleeing war and violence will always be taken care of, but in numbers that our country can handle’, Hermans once again outlines the situation in Studio Den Haag.

According to her, that won’t work with the number of refugees arriving now. ‘The pressure on our housing market, care and education and society is very great. This tests the company’s support and capacity, which is why we believe the numbers should be reduced.’

Taking a decision

That is why, according to Hermans, it is important that decisions are made. ‘Seven months ago we had tough discussions on the distribution law. Subsequently, talks began in the cabinet. Now let’s say: after seven months of discussions and discoveries, now is the time to make a decision.’

And this should happen before the political suspension, says the chairman of the VVD party. ‘It is important to offer a perspective to all those municipalities receiving people, COAs and INDs before the end of the parliamentary year. They have to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel, that politicians are able to solve this problem.’
