“I have a bad feeling that we are working with a party that does not recognize the democratic constitutional state somewhere, it goes against it,” Bikker told Nieuwsuur. “I find it complicated.” But like other party leaders who have previously spoken out on the matter, he says it is up to department members to make that choice.

“In our party, members can weigh things up for themselves and they will do the same in Flevoland,” says Bikker. He points out that the ChristenUnie differs in this from the PVV, which has no members, except for party leader Geert Wilders, who can participate in the discussion.
Schouten had previously called the collaboration with the PVV “uncomfortable” and Agriculture Minister Piet Adema said he was surprised. Party chairman Ankie van Tatenhove was also critical of him, as was the youth organization PerspectieF.
