“I realize very well that this will be a setback for struggling parents,” says Minister Karien van Gennip (Social Affairs). He points out that in August the cabinet will examine “the whole purchasing power picture” for next year. “In doing so, explicit attention will be paid to child poverty, families and the social security of Dutch families.”

The quarterly amount for children up to 6 years of age will decrease by 8.06 euros to 261.70 euros, that for children aged between 6 and 11 by 9.97 euros to 317.77 euros and that for children from 12 to 18 years of 11.52 euros to 373.85 euros. The reductions will take effect from 1 July. At the beginning of next year, family allowances will once again be adjusted to the average price level.
