The agriculture deal could fail today, says Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality Minister Piet Adema. After a week’s break, the minister will continue speaking today with all parties involved. One of the topics that will be discussed is the maximum number of cows per hectare.
The minister does not think the signatures will be signed today. “Obviously that would be great, but the reality is we have a lot of points to discuss today, there are still some points on the table,” said Adema.
Young farmers
An example of this is the maximum number of cows per hectare. ‘They are still in talks with banks and supermarkets, among others. And we must also look closely at the position of young farmers’, underlines Adema. “I think it’s a very important theme to develop further.”
Big tasks
But we are not there yet. According to Adema, the agricultural agreement could also ‘explode’ today. “We still have some big challenges. If we don’t, the agriculture deal could fail. Of course I don’t want that. It is extremely important for agriculture to conclude this agreement, and also for Dutch society.’
He continues: ‘We’ve come a long way on the agricultural table and we really shouldn’t think it fails. (…) I shouldn’t think about it. We just need to have the agricultural agreement.’
