CDA prepares for early elections Related articles

The CDA is preparing for a snap election, but doesn’t know if Hoekstra should be at the helm. This was reported by the CEO, who spoke about it with several prominent members of the CDA. A leader other than Wopke Hoekstra may be electorally reasonable, but that means another party leader is ousted. And that looks bad.

“I don’t think Wopke should do it again,” says a CDA member. “We’re ready to die, it’s do or die,” rings over the party. If the cabinet falls, it is not certain that Hoekstra will be leader again. (ANP / ANP / Robin Utrecht)

It could be a summer of many political wrangling between the CDA and coalition partners. Because if necessary, the CEO notes through the mouth of the CDA bosses, the CDA will confront the coalition partners in the coming weeks. And if the cabinet falls, a change of leadership cannot be ruled out.

“I don’t think Wopke should do it again,” says a CDA member. “We’re ready to die, it’s do or die,” rings over the party.

Particularly important will be the weeks leading up to the summer break in early July. On the agenda: nitrogen and asylum. In these two explosive dossiers, the CDA is at times diametrically opposed to the other government parties, and the fall of the Rutte IV cabinet cannot be ruled out. Extending its duration until the March 2025 elections is not necessary at all costs, the CEO hears members of the CDA say.
