The Carter family are sharing news that former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, 95, is suffering from dementia, the Carter Center announced Tuesday.
She still lives happily at home with her husband, enjoying Spring in Plains and visiting her loved ones,” said a statement from the think tank founded by former President Carter and his wife.
The center noted that Ms. Carter has been a leading mental health advocate for much of her life, working to improve access to care and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. The family says it is sharing the news in hopes of sparking conversations at kitchen tables and in doctors’ offices that can help people and their families get the support they need, the statement said.
