The draft agriculture agreement that leaked today is real, but negotiations are still ongoing on the big issues. LTO and Agractie confirm this to BNR. According to RTL News, the draft agreement states, among other things, that Dutch agriculture must become fully sustainable. “We already knew that,” says political journalist Leendert Beekman. “Parent points will need to be discussed further.”
Negotiations on the agriculture agreement are still ongoing. “This concept is an outdated version,” says Beekman. ‘It’s not the latter situation. The things in it are kind of takers. We don’t know much yet.’
The pain points are missing, says Beekman. ‘For example, what has been decided on soil and manure has been established for some time. We don’t see that reflected in this draft proposal yet. It’s just being discussed, the agricultural deal is still being finalized, things are still being adjusted.’
Abroad
LTO claims it has not leaked the deal itself. Agractie says she still fears Dutch farmers could be overtaken by foreign countries under the new rules. “Agracie is very critical of that,” says Beekman. “Not everyone agrees. It is completely clear that an agricultural agreement has not yet been finalized.
A deal should be reached tomorrow, but even if it does, the agriculture deal is still far from complete, Beekman says. “Even then we are still not at the finish line. The deal has yet to be calculated by the Dutch Environmental Assessment Agency and has to go through all the backers of the various interest groups. Then there will be adjustments again, which everyone has to agree on.’
