Van der Plas: ‘Everything becomes liquid under pressure’ Related articles

The coalition parties will meet tonight to evaluate the results of the provincial council elections. BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) frontwoman Caroline van der Plas is pleased with that consultation, especially as the cabinet wants to seek extra campaign money. “Everything becomes liquid under pressure, we can see that now.”

According to Van der Plas, many things that the BBB “worked on for two years” can now be done on the fly. “They apparently realized that spreadsheet management isn’t really effective and that rural areas are underserved,” she says. “I therefore look forward to tonight’s consultations with great interest and hope that they will come to an agreement”.

Political choice

Van der Plas believes that more money should not only go to the countryside but also to infrastructure, among other things. ‘It also has to go to the structures that ensure the countryside is kept livable. And to the police, because there has been a complete demolition there in recent years.’

“The question of where we will pay it is decisive”

But all that money has to come from somewhere. However, the question of where we will pay it is a “decisive point,” says Van der Plas. ‘Everything is a political choice and I have often said that we must first look at the efficiency of the work of the ministries. Does red tape cost health care, say, $22 billion a year, what if we take ten percent off that?’

For example, BBB foreman believes less money should be spent on consultants. ‘Hundreds of millions are being spent on consultancies, just look at Deloitte’s report on the mask affair. But many of those relationships end up in a drawer. We’ll have to make it one day, and then you’ll have plenty of money left.”
