MKB-Nederland President: “The Netherlands calls for more confidence with this result” Related articles

The fact that the BoerBurgerBeweging is the overall winner of the provincial elections may initially sound like music to the ears of SMEs. The party is committed to the energy problems facing many small business owners. But President Jacco Vonhof of MKB-Nederland is reluctant. “I’m mostly wondering what exactly happened.”

To trust

‘The SME sector is one group that the BoerBurger Movement pays attention to when it comes to various economic topics. The same goes for JA21, they too have many views on SMEs and get three seats according to exit polls.’ However, according to Vonhof, it is certainly not just about SMEs, but this result says something about the whole of Holland. “This shows that the whole country is asking for more trust in The Hague.”

At the same time, the “cloud left” – the combination of GroenLinks and PvdA – is also likely to end up with fifteen seats. This means that the cabinet must form a coalition on the left, with that combination, or on the right, with the BBB. According to Vonhof, if the cabinet chooses to turn left, this will be less favorable for entrepreneurs and the business climate. ‘They mainly want to increase the burden on companies.’

Taxi action

There is still a blow to the arm because all the votes have not yet been counted, but according to Vonhof the provisional result demonstrates that the country is ready for change. ‘The population is saying that people in The Hague should listen more. Trust is needed and it’s time to act taxi, then implementation instead of just making policy.’

The implementation of this policy will not be easy for the government. The Hague faces major challenges when it comes to topics such as nitrogen and migration. And according to Vonhof, the discussion on the labor market will soon heat up. “The cabinet should think carefully about whether it’s going to do it with a lot of leftist input, so it’s going to get tougher, tighter and more complicated.”

Collision course

According to the president of MKB-Nederland, the role of the provinces should not be underestimated. ‘After all, we are talking about the provincial elections, we sometimes forget about it.’ Now that the BBB is the largest in many provinces, forming a coalition in the provinces becomes nearly impossible without Van der Plas’ party.

‘Provinces need to start thinking about how to put the shovel in the ground’

Jacco Vonhof, president of MKB-Nederland

“The provinces have to think about how they can put the shovel in the ground, they owe it to the citizens,” says Vonhof. “They have to do whatever they can to make things work. From time to time it will be on a collision course with what is being beamed nationwide.’
