An armed man who opened fire on Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies in response to an emergency call remained barricaded Saturday afternoon at a San Gabriel Valley home more than 24 hours after the standoff began, officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about an attack with a deadly weapon near the 16900 block of Wing Lane in Valinda at around 2:29 p.m. Friday, authorities said. When officers arrived, officials said, the suspect began firing and deputies returned fire. The suspect then barricaded himself in the house where he is staying.

Crisis negotiators and employees of the department’s special enforcement office are on the scene.

“It’s pretty much at a standstill at the moment,” said LASD deputy Michael Chen.

No one was hit by gunfire and one female victim was transported to a local hospital for a non-shooting-related injury, the department said in a press release.

Sheriff’s deputies have evacuated nearby residents to a local high school where the Red Cross is assisting with relief efforts, Chen said.
