In the fight against sexism against women, D66 leader Sigrid Kaag wants a ban on “perverse algorithms that give a megaphone to inflammatory, hateful or illegal messages”. According to Kaag, society cannot afford to allow a “toxic climate of sexism” to exist. She so she said at a party meeting in Amsterdam.
As part of the fix, Kaag is looking into major social platforms, where women and minorities are “tipsy game”. “Profits are for the tech giants, costs are for society,” she said at the rally ahead of International Women’s Day. Kaag wants to ban those perverted algorithms “because these online feelings always find their way into real life.” This makes them a threat to our society.’
Paralyzes
According to Kaag, sexism paralyzes democracy and endangers the progress of the Netherlands. The minister drew attention to the still disadvantaged position of women. They still cannot count on equal treatment and the consequences of this are serious, Kaag stressed.
“Women should never hesitate to step forward. That hesitation is more and more present, that’s the problem. This is not only bad for women themselves, but also bad for our country. Our democracy doesn’t work well if not everyone can participate.”
