At the moment there is still enough money to maintain price caps and other types of income support for a while. That’s what GroenLinks MP Tom van der Lee says in BNR’s Studio The Hague. In doing so, he contradicts Finance Minister Sigrid Kaag, who has stated that the money is running out.
The reason for this? Kaag says the Dutch have collectively become poorer. However, Van der Lee dares to doubt it. For example, he calls Kaag’s words obsolete. “If you look at the state of the Dutch economy, you can see it’s very strong,” he says. “The economy is growing a little slower, but it has grown nonetheless. So collectively we have gotten richer. So what Kaag says is incorrect.’

Van der Lee also speaks of a changed reality. Since more figures are now known, it can only be concluded that Kaag’s words are no longer correct. “We get richer together,” he says. “And therefore also redistribution can be tackled even more decisively.”
