Nearly 13.3 million people will be eligible to vote in the upcoming provincial council election on March 15, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) said on the basis of its provisional data. Among those entitled there are 800,000 young people who vote for the first time in the Provincial Council.

Over the past twenty years, the voting population has aged. This year almost 27% are 65 years of age or older, up from more than 18% in 2003. In the municipality of Laren (North Holland), the number of voters aged 65 and over is the highest, i.e. 40.7%.
