The balloon seen over Canada and the United States, dubbed a Chinese spy balloon, is a scientific research airship that went off course due to force majeure, according to China.
It is a civilian airship and, according to Beijing, has nothing to do with espionage, according to Chinese media. China regrets that the balloon, which is also used for meteorology, accidentally ended up in US airspace.
Beijing’s Foreign Ministry has previously expressed the hope that the parties involved handle the matter calmly and prudently. Speculating and making a fuss about it won’t help solve the problem, according to the Chinese.
