With that, Kaag issued a call for “all reasonable forces”. The leader of D66 wants them to stand up and stop being silent. Kaag also wants to start a conversation about “fighting” extremes, he said in his speech about him.
Conspiracy theories
The timing of the declarations is not accidental. Earlier this week it was announced that one in five Dutch people believe in conspiracy theories and another fifth have doubts. Tomorrow we start with the World Economic Forum, one of the major centers of conspiracy theories, which will also be attended by Minister Kaag.
The distrust of these people is fueled and encouraged by a political current “that copies the language and tactics of the American extreme right. A movement that denies a broad scientific consensus, dehumanizes journalists and makes judges suspicious.”
Not immune
According to Kaag, the far right contributes to the rigidity of society. He also referred to the storming of the Capitol in the United States and the recent chaos and violence in Brazil, but said the Netherlands is not “immune” to this either.
