Parties on both the left and right of the political spectrum believe that industries such as aviation or road construction shouldn’t buy nitrogen space. Instead, they want the cabinet to help first the so-called ‘PAS detectors’, the farmers who emit nitrogen without permission and through no fault of their own because it was allowed earlier.
GroenLinks, BBB and VVD also no longer want Schiphol or Rijkswaterstaat to buy farmers to create nitrogen space for the airport or the streets. VVD member Thom van Campen asks his party colleague Minister Christianne van der Wal (Nature and Nitrogen) why a company like Schiphol can buy space, but a province or national government cannot create space for PAS detectors in this way. . According to Van der Wal, the government cannot do this, because this can be seen by Europe as unjustified state aid. According to her, only the quick purchase of tip magazines can help.

In Overijssel, PAS journalists, tolerated until recently, are in serious trouble. The judge ruled that the province can no longer tolerate, after which fines were imposed on the farmers. Van der Wal collapsed during the debate when she spoke of the farming families she had spoken to there. You said last month that you still couldn’t offer them a solution: to organize their space, you need to buy another emitter in the area. It is not allowed to buy a farm later on for the permission of a PAS reporter.
BBB leader Caroline van der Plas spoke of “crocodile tears” that the cabinet says it sympathizes with PAS journalists but then can do little about them. “I don’t understand how we can live on farms bought for highways and aviation.” It came to the anger of Van der Wal, who had to swallow tears shortly before. “Then my humanity is questioned,” the minister said. Van der Plas said she had no doubts about Van der Wal’s sincerity, but she referred to the cabinet as a whole.
Several motions have been passed in the House of Representatives asking the cabinet to limit the purchase of nitrogen spaces by companies such as Schiphol. Van der Wal said Tuesday that Schiphol acted within the law but to discuss the motions with his fellow ministers.
