With this proposal, the cabinet wants to actively approach around 3,000 “small shippers”. But the reactions are mixed. “Is putting it up for sale the only solution?”
For example, LTO Netherlands claims that this plan is in line with what was proposed by Johan Remkes. Farmers Defense Force and Agractie stress that the choice to resign should still be voluntary and raise questions about what the definition of a “peak loader” is. And Johan Vollenbroek of Mobilization for the Environment (MOB) wonders if that is enough and if the plan can count on the approval of the European Commission.

‘After years finally planning’
And GroenLinks MP Laura Bromet is also critical. She likes the buyout scheme, but only when farmers get real prospects. “It is important that we finally make it. We have waited more than three years since the court ruling for the plans from the cabinet, and now they seem to be coming.’
Bromet hopes the government will make regulations for farmers who want to switch to agriculture that includes nature. ‘What should farmers who want to change but don’t know how to do? Or is putting it up for sale the only solution?’
