If it is up to D66, it will be easier for the prosecutor to ban a political party if it seriously violates the rule of law. The article of law that now bans criminal motorcycle gangs, by the way, must also apply to political parties, reports NOS.
In that article of the civil code, political parties are now excluded. That exception must disappear, says D66 party chairman Jan Paternotte. ‘Let’s say: it can only be that right now, when you see democracy under pressure everywhere, we say that it is not allowed to undermine the rule of law, unless you are a political party.’
The cabinet is already working on a separate law on political parties, which should also include a possible ban. Paternotte doesn’t want to wait. “It will take another year and a half as we see radicalization proceeding rapidly in some parties in the Netherlands.”
It mainly refers to the Forum for Democracy. “There has been a lot of talk about it lately. From: we want to overthrow the government to: violence is beautiful, because it can change things. We have to take it seriously. Democracy is too beautiful not to protect it.
