Large increase in student meals at the university

233 percent increase in student meals at the university

The management of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) increased student cafeteria fees by 233 percent, increasing the meal fee from 6 lira to 20 lira.

Students from the Medical Student Section of the Samsun Chamber of Medicine reacted to the increase.

On behalf of the students, Süleyman Taha Kılıç stated that the increase was unacceptable.

“No justification has been given for this increase, which is much higher than the inflation rate announced by TURKSTAT,” Kılıç said, adding: “Although there has been no such increase in any university operating in our region, this increase “At our university, which has more opportunities than other universities, it has created disappointment among students.”

‘WE DON’T WANT TO GET UP FROM THE TABLE UNTIL WE ARE SATISFIED’

Kılıç stated that they are aware of the economic difficulties that the country is experiencing and continued the following:

“It is unacceptable that the portions we are given have decreased over the years and yet food prices have constantly increased. We don’t want to leave the dining room table without being full.

One of the reasons for the increasing number of suicides among university students in our country is economic difficulties.

We are aware of the economic problems of our country, but we, the students most affected by these economic problems, do not accept such an increase in food prices.

“We call on the authorities to be aware and duty to review the quality and price of food.”
