Unemployment figures announced
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the labor force statistics for September 2023.
According to the results of the Household Labor Force Survey, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over decreased by 46 thousand people in September 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 168 thousand people.
The unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 points compared to the previous month and reached 9.1 percent in September. This rate was estimated to be 7.5 percent for men and 12.3 percent for women.
DECREASED EMPLOYMENT RATE
The number of employed people decreased by 59 thousand people in September 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 31 million 686 thousand people, and the employment rate decreased 0.2 points to 48.3 percent. This rate was 65.8 percent for men and 31.2 percent for women.
The labor force decreased by 105 thousand people in September 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 34 million 854 thousand people, and the labor participation rate decreased 0.2 points to 53.2 percent. While the labor force participation rate was 71.1 percent for men, it was 35.6 percent for women.
YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT IS 16.7 PERCENT
The unemployment rate among the young population, which includes the age group of 15 to 24 years, was 16.7 percent, with a decrease of 0.2 points compared to the previous month. Unemployment rate in this age group; It was estimated at 13.8 percent for men and 22.0 percent for women.
The real average weekly working day of those who were employed during the reference period, corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, increased 0.8 hours compared to the previous month and reached 44.2 hours in September 2023.
BROADLY DEFINED UNEMPLOYMENT 21.8 PERCENT
The inactive labor force rate, which comprises underemployment due to insufficient hours, the potential labor force and the unemployed, also known as unemployment broadly defined, was 21.8 percent in September 2023, with a decrease of 1.2 points compared to the previous month.
While the integrated rate of underemployment due to insufficient hours and unemployed was 14.6 percent, the integrated rate of unemployed and potential labor force was estimated at 16.7 percent.
