US jobless claims fell short of expectations
US jobless claims came in below expectations at 217,000 in the week ending November 4.
Economists participating in the Reuters poll predicted unemployment benefits would reach 218,000.
According to seasonally adjusted data announced by the US Department of Labor, the number of claims, which had previously been announced at 217,000 in the week ending October 28, was revised to 220,000.
The four-week average of U.S. jobless claims, considered a better indicator of U.S. labor market trends, rose to 212,250 in the week ending Nov. 4.
The total number of people receiving unemployment benefits in the US increased to 1,834 million in the week ending October 28. (REUTERS)
