Elon Musk launches ChatGPT rival Grok

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, launched the first artificial intelligence from his artificial intelligence startup xAI.

Musk said he had instant access to information from social media platform X, which Grok bought for $44 billion a year ago.

Stating that the chatbot loves sarcasm and responds with a bit of humor, Musk added that he hopes giving Grok more personality will help it stand out in an increasingly crowded market.

THE PAID VERSION WILL BE 16 DOLLARS PER MONTH

Musk, who said last week that eventually “artificial intelligence will be able to do anything” and make human labor obsolete, founded xAI earlier this year. Although it was created in just a few months, Musk says it rivals other AI models.

Elon Musk’s xAI AI startup is trying to challenge OpenAI, Google and Meta by launching its first AI model.

His team, made up of engineers who previously worked at Google DeepMind and Microsoft, is racing to catch up to more established rivals like OpenAI, which Musk founded in 2015 but abandoned three years later.

xAI said Grok’s ability to answer mathematical queries or display logic is similar to OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 model, the model that powered the first version of ChatGPT. However, xAI also admitted that it is behind OpenAI, which released its latest GPT-4 model in March.

After completing the trial period, Grok will begin the app’s new “Premium+” service, which costs about $16 per month.
