Tomato prices increased 101 percent in one year
The Antalya Commodity Exchange (ATB) announced the index of tomatoes, fruits and vegetables traded in Antalya markets for October.
Index values related to transaction quantities and prices of tomatoes, vegetables and fruits traded in Antalya markets changed in October 2023 compared to the previous month and the same month of the previous year.
October indices decreased by 4.01 percent in tomatoes compared to the previous month (monthly), increased by 22.54 percent in vegetables and decreased by 15.57 percent in fruits. Quantity indices decreased by 16.88 percent for tomatoes, 11.31 percent for vegetables and 10.55 for fruits compared to the same month last year (annual).
The annual variation of the indices in October showed an average decrease in the quantity of tomatoes, vegetables and fruits. Variations in annual price indices increased above average for tomatoes, vegetables and fruits.
TOMATO PRICE INCREASED 101.12 PERCENT IN ONE YEAR
While the annual change in the tomato price index in October was reflected in the table as a 101.12 percent increase, the 16.88 percent decrease in quantity triggered the price increase.
While the annual change of vegetable price index increased by 54.75 percent, the decrease of annual vegetable quantity index by 11.31 percent played an important role in this above-average price increase.
Although the fruit price index increased by 78.98 percent annually, this increase was due to a 10.55 percent decrease in the amount of annual fruit transactions.
RECORD DECREASE IN THE QUANTITY OF TOMATOES IN THE LAST 5 YEARS
Monthly changes in quantity and price indices in October represented a record decrease in quantity and a higher-than-average price increase for tomatoes over the past five years. Compared with the previous month (monthly), the tomato transaction quantity index decreased by 4.01 percent in October, while the transaction price index increased by 36.17 percent month-on-month.
HIGH INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT OF VEGETABLES
Although the vegetable transaction quantity index showed an extraordinary increase of 22.54 percent in October compared to the previous month (monthly), the transaction price index increased by 7.13 percent month-on-month.
Considering the months of October of the last 5 years, the vegetable quantity index showed a high increase, while the variation of the price index increased below the average.
RECORD DECREASE IN FRUIT SUPPLY
Compared with the previous month (monthly), the fruit transaction quantity index decreased by 15.57 percent in October, while the transaction price index increased by 2.79 percent.
Considering the months of October of the last 5 years, the monthly variations showed a record decrease in the fruit quantity index and an increase of six on average in the price index.
