Global crude steel production fell 1.5 percent in September
The Brussels-based World Steel Association (Worldsteel) announced crude steel production data for September.
Consequently, global crude steel production decreased by 1.5 percent last month compared to the same period in 2022, falling to 149.3 million tonnes.
Output in China, the world’s largest steel producer, is estimated to have declined 5.6 percent to 82.1 million tonnes in the period. While Japan’s production decreased 1.7 percent to 7 million tons, United States production increased 2.6 percent to 6.7 million tons.
INCREASED IN Türkiye
Germany’s production rose 2.1 percent to 2.9 million tonnes. Turkey’s crude steel production increased by 8.4 percent in September compared to the same period last year, reaching 2.9 million tons.
During that period, steel production is estimated to have increased by 9.8 percent in Russia to 6.2 million tonnes and decreased by 12.7 percent to 2.4 million tonnes in Iran.
In the period January-September 2023, global crude steel production increased by 0.1 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1 billion 406 million tons. (AA)
