Demand for sanctions for egg producing companies
The egg producing companies, which were investigated by the Competition Board, presented an oral defense. The investigation committee requested the imposition of administrative fines on 12 companies that had violated competition by fixing common prices.
The Competition Board launched an investigation into allegations of competition violations by determining a common price against a total of 34 companies operating in the egg production sector in May 2022 and December 2022.
While the investigation process continued, 14 of the companies accepted the existence and scope of the violation and the maximum administrative fine stipulated in the provisional settlement decision and requested conciliation. The investigation against the 14 egg-producing companies in question concluded with the application of a reduced administrative fine in accordance with the conciliation provisions.
The investigation against the remaining 20 egg producers reached the oral defense stage.
FINE REQUEST FOR 12 COMPANIES
At the meeting chaired by the president of the competition authority, Birol Küle, the investigation committee expressed its opinion for the first time based on the evidence obtained.
According to this; It was determined that some of the companies involved in the investigation had agreements with their competitors to set product prices or share territory.
No infringement findings could be found for 8 companies.
The investigation commission stated that the infringement detected was of the “cartel” category and requested the imposition of administrative fines on 12 companies in this context. After the investigative commission, the company representatives made their oral defense. The Competition Board is expected to announce its final decision within 15 days. (DHA)
