Christmas hit for low-income people
Low-income families who rent a summer house are also deprived of their vacation because they cannot go to a hotel due to exorbitant prices.
Vacationers will not be able to rent their houses and those who manage to rent them will face a heavy tax burden.
The bill, drafted by AKP deputies and regulating the short-term rental of housing for tourism purposes, will deal a serious blow to the holidays of low-income citizens.
BUTTER FOR HOTEL BOSSES
While foreign tourists vacation in 5-star luxury hotels in Turkey, millions of low-income citizens cannot go on vacation or rent a house for a week or 10 days because hotels are expensive. If the bill becomes law, it will be almost impossible to rent houses for tourism purposes in the short term.
The prices of the few homes that have the right to rent will skyrocket due to the heavy tax burden. The regulation will benefit hotel entrepreneurs.
APPROVAL REQUIREMENT
In this context, the government estimates that there are around 150 thousand houses and plans to collect billions of liras in taxes through the so-called house registration. However, the bill accepted by the Planning and Budget Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey requires owners who want to rent their homes for less than 100 days in a row to obtain the approval of all their neighbors.
For example, a homeowner who wants to rent his house in a vacation spot with 100 apartments will have to get approval from each of his 99 neighbors.
If the heirs of the deceased person who owns the house want to rent it out, they will need the approval of all the heirs. The opposition argued that it would make it virtually impossible to obtain approval, thus ending the summer rental system entirely.
Residential landlords approved for letting will pay up to 40 per cent income tax, 20 per cent VAT, accommodation tax and stamp duty. Due to these taxes, the rental price will be close to the hotel price.
‘HOTEL MAINTAINERS PREPARED’
CHP deputy Hüseyin Yıldız said: “I say this as a former hotel owner. This bill was prepared by hoteliers.”
Yıldız stated that almost all houses are rented by low-income people who cannot go to hotels, so 5-10 people can have a 10-day vacation week and said: “From now on, maybe only “5 out of 100 houses are rented.” be rented. “You won’t be able to find a low-income summer home,” he said.
The regulation covers not only resorts but also residences in all provinces of Turkey.
PROSTITUTION ALLEGATION
The government has reportedly prepared a regulation that will deprive millions of low-income people of vacation opportunities and tens of thousands of homeowners of additional income, primarily to end daily home rental practices, which supposedly They constitute prostitution.
For this purpose, the requirement to obtain permission from all neighbors was added to the proposal. It was also stated that the goal is to increase the number of long-term rental houses by around 100,000 to 150,000, making short-term rentals impossible.
AKP deputies argued that thanks to the regulation the number of long-term rental housing will increase and rents will become cheaper.
