‘Taxes on tobacco, gambling and alcohol exceeded the budgets of 12 ministries’

CHP Niğde MP Ömer Fethi Gürer addressed a parliamentary question to the Ministry of Treasury and Finance to draw attention to the increase in tax revenue from alcoholic beverages, gambling and tobacco products.

CHP Niğde MP Ömer Fethi Gürer asked for answers to the following questions in his motion:

* How much is the separate tax on alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tobacco products, cigarettes and gambling in the first 7 months of 2022 and 2023? What is the target tax amount for the end of 2023?

* Where does our country rank in tax practices applied to alcoholic beverages, tobacco and tobacco products, and gambling in the world?

* Are taxes collected on alcoholic beverages, tobacco and tobacco products, and gambling collected by the treasury and used for expenses paid to public employees? In this context, what is the share of these tax revenues in the payments of employees?

CONSTANTLY INCREASING

Gürer stated that the total amount of tax collected from tobacco products and alcoholic beverages within the scope of the Special Consumption Tax was 18 billion 661 million 990 thousand TL in January 2023, and that this amount increased by 30 percent in the period of 8 months until August 2023, reaching 24 thousand 332 million 816 thousand TL. he said:

“It is seen that there is an increase of 5 thousand 670 million 826 thousand TL between January and August 2023. Tax revenues from gambling are also increasing. If in January it was 1 million 178 thousand 543 TL, in August this figure increased to 2 thousand 142 million 542 thousand TL. “If we look at the increase proportionally, there is an 81 percent increase.”

‘TAX REVENUE OF 154 BILLION TL WAS PROVIDED IN 8 MONTHS’

CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer said: “In the first 8 months of 2023, total tax revenue from gambling, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products amounted to 154 billion 427 million 530 thousand TL. The income obtained from taxes on these 3 concepts corresponds to 5% of all tax income. It is noted that in 8 months a total of 102 billion 36 million 237 thousand TL of tax revenue was obtained from tobacco products, 39 billion 937 million 837 thousand TL from alcoholic beverages and 12 billion 453 million 237 thousand TL from gambling. random”. saying.

‘TAX REVENUES FROM 3 ITEMS EXCEEDED THE BUDGET OF 12 MINISTRIES’

Gürer stated that 8 months’ tax revenue from alcoholic beverages, tobacco products and gambling has currently exceeded the budget of 12 ministries and that this figure will exceed the budget of all but 3 ministries by the end of the year, Gürer said: “In the first 8 months of 2023, the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of National Defense, “Except the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the total tax revenue obtained of these 3 items has exceeded the budget of the other 12 Ministries,” he stated.

Gürer said: “It is seen that by the end of 2023, tax revenues will exceed the budgets of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and will exceed the budgets of a total of 14 ministries.”
