Citizens expect an increase in the minimum wage

How much will the minimum wage increase be and when will it be announced?

The minimum wage earners, who are becoming poorer every day due to successive increases, began to expect a salary increase. The minimum wage meeting will determine the wages that millions of employees will receive starting in the new year.

WHEN WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE DECLARED?

The minimum wage will be determined as a result of meetings that will be held in December with the participation of workers, employers and representatives of the Ministry.

The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which is made up of 15 people, including five representatives of workers, employers and the government, as required by law. The Commission meets four times in December, as is customary, as part of its efforts to determine the new minimum wage.

The commission, chaired by one of the members determined by the Ministry, meets with the participation of at least 10 members and decides by majority vote. In case of equality of votes, the presiding party is assumed to have the majority.

HOW MUCH WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE?

While Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek wanted future salary increases to take into account target inflation instead of the past, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan made a statement, pointing to the past. inflation.

Drawing attention to the damage caused to the population by the recent high inflation, Işıkhan gave the message that they will use the minimum wage negotiations in December to ease the burden of inflation.

Işıkhan’s speech was interpreted to mean that the government would propose a rate increase that takes into account past high inflation in the minimum wage negotiations that took place before the elections.

DECREASED TO 8,732 LIRAS

The purchasing power of the minimum wage, which increased to 11,402 lira in July, could not withstand the increases. According to ENAG, the purchasing power of the minimum wage decreased by 2,670 liras to 8,732 liras at the end of September.
