Energy Minister: Akkuyu is a Russian investment but a Turkish company
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said that the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGP) is a Russian investment, but this investment is no different from any foreign investment in Turkey.
Bayraktar stated that the Akkuyu NPP is a project under the control of Turkey and said: “Akkuyu Nükleer AŞ is a Turkish company, a company that operates in accordance with the tax legislation and legal regulations of the Republic of Turkey” and continued as follows:
“It is a project that works within that framework, and beyond that, within the scope of the intergovernmental agreement, we have extremely important rights in all aspects, both economic and security, and it is completely under the control of Turkey.
Apart from that, we are talking about a project that operates in full compliance with international regulations and standards regarding nuclear safety.”
ELECTRICAL PRODUCTION GOAL FOR 2024
Bayraktar stated that his goal is to have the first reactor at the Akkuyu power plant produce electricity next year, saying: “As you know, there are four reactors there. “Our goal is to commission these four reactors in the next four years, that is, in 2028,” he said.
“Our goal is to produce 10 percent of the energy Turkey needs here,” Bayraktar said, adding: “This is a very important figure. It will also meet this need without generating carbon emissions. “In other words, it is a very important step that also serves Turkey’s goal of becoming a carbon-neutral economy by 2053,” he said.
BAYRAKTAR: A NEW NUCLEAR ENERGY MUST BE ESTABLISHED
Energy Minister: Turkey should definitely put new nuclear power plants into operation in Sinop and Thrace
Bayraktar emphasized that to achieve this goal, Turkey must put new nuclear power plants into operation in Sinop and Thrace and that they will continue working in this context.
Noting that negotiations on the issue continue with South Korea, the Russian Federation and China, Bayraktar said: “Therefore, we do not yet have a finalized and signed agreement, but we continue to have very intense negotiations with these three countries for both.” . Sinop and Thrace. “In the next period we will say yes to the project that can be created for our country with technology transfer, localization, local employment and, of course, the most economical and competitive price of electricity, and we will walk within that framework.” he shared his knowledge .
‘THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH SECURITY OF SUPPLY’
Bayraktar said: “Especially in natural gas, we are winterizing our tanks at full capacity, especially in this area where we are more sensitive in winter. Apart from that, we are also working to bring additional gas resources to Turkey. We do not foresee any problems regarding security of supply this winter. “We don’t expect any surprises,” he said.
Recalling that Turkey has been supplying gas from Russia since 1986 and has not experienced any problems with this gas flow even in difficult times, Bayraktar continued:
“I hope that we will not have any problems with our other suppliers, both within the scope of their obligations in Azerbaijan and Iran, and with our liquefied LNG suppliers. But we made a significant investment in infrastructure. “Because of that infrastructure, I anticipate that we will not have any problems as we increase our storage capacity, our ability to receive LNG and our gasification capacity.” (AA)
