US nonfarm employment exceeds expectations

Non-farm employment in the US exceeded expectations with 336 thousand in September.

The data, which was announced at 187 thousand last month, was revised to 227 thousand.​

78 economists polled by Reuters expected nonfarm payrolls to rise by 170,000 in September.

Labor force participation remained stable at 62.8 percent in September.​

The US Department of Labor announced that the unemployment rate in September remained stable at 3.8 percent, while last month it was announced that the unemployment rate was 3.8 percent.

Economists polled by Reuters had predicted the unemployment rate would fall to 3.7%.

Average hourly wages in the US were stable in September at 0.2% and were expected to increase 0.3%.

The annual increase in average hourly wages decreased to 4.2% from 4.3% the previous month. (REUTERS)
