ASO President’s Production Loss Warning
Stating that the labor shortage is increasing day by day in almost all sectors of the industry, Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) President Seyit Ardıç said: “We hope this problem will be resolved as soon as possible. “Otherwise, it will not be possible to increase and develop production to the level we want,” he said.
The ASO Chamber Assembly and the Second and Third Joint Meeting of OIZ Business Delegations were held in Muğla in September.
Noting that high inflation, cost developments and pricing difficulties affect production, Ardıç made the following assessment:
“It is very important that we demonstrate positive growth performance. To permanently solve the problems of inflation and current account deficits, we need to guarantee a higher level of production than consumption. “We see that an important part of fighting inflation in the MTP is to reduce consumer demand, but the realistic way to achieve balance between supply and demand in the medium and long term is to increase production.”
Ardıç stated that in order to accelerate growth again and enter a stable development trend, skilled industrial production and skilled service investments integrated with them must be supported.
‘ACCESS TO FINANCING CONTINUES TO BE THE MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEM’
Ardıç stated that despite the measures taken for exporters, access to financing remains the most important problem and said:
“We evaluate very positively the emphasis of our Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek on price stability, financial discipline and structural reforms. Real sector expectations include improving the investment environment, reducing the gap between inflation and the exchange rate, ensuring the balance between inflation and interest, and facilitating access to financing.
Despite measures such as the signing of protocols with banks for exporters and the increase in the limit for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), access to financing remains the most important problem. Expanding the volume of credit and effectively using the Eximbank and KGF channels at the sector level are among the expectations of the real sector.”
Ardıç pointed out that as industrialists, they consider the goals of green and digital transformation and strengthening the business ecosystem to be important, and said: “Strengthening logistics infrastructure, expanding industrial areas and deepening trade agreements are also extremely important. “It is urgent to update the Customs Union Agreement with the European Union,” he said.
LABOR SHORTAGE THREATENS PRODUCTION
Ardıç stated that the insufficiency of labor in terms of quality and quantity negatively affects production:
“Although there is unemployment in our country, the problem of unemployment experienced by industrialists has risen to the top of the agenda. The labor shortage is increasing day by day in almost all sectors of the industry. We hope this issue is resolved as soon as possible. “Otherwise, it will not be possible to increase and develop production at the level we want and, above all, our exports will be negatively affected by this deficit.” (AA)
