United Public Works: The hunger line is 14 thousand 542 TL, the poverty line is 41 thousand 651 TL

The United Confederation of Public Enterprises announced the September Hunger and Poverty Survey, which was prepared taking into account the food and non-food expenses that a family of four in Ankara must consume to have a balanced and healthy diet.

According to the research results, the hunger limit of a family of four in September 2023 will increase from 13,701 lira to 14,542 lira, while the poverty line, which shows the total amount of food and non-food expenses that a family of four must do to live in a manner worthy of human dignity and without feeling of deprivation, and increased to 41,651 lire.

While the hunger limit increased by 841 lira in September compared to the previous month, necessary expenses for needs other than food increased by 5,537 lira and reached 27,109 lira. The poverty line, which is the sum of both, increased by 3,378 liras compared to the previous month.

Compared to a year ago, the hunger limit increased by 6,875 lira and spending on needs other than food increased by 12,399 lira. The poverty line increased by a total of 19,274 liras in the last year.

As a result of the research, it was stated that “The acceleration of price increases in all areas, especially in food, transportation and housing, increases the risk of hunger and poverty day by day.”

PRICE INCREASE

According to prices collected in Ankara’s most popular markets, the monthly amount that should be spent on meat, fish and eggs for a balanced diet increased by 390 lira in September compared to the previous month, and increased by 2,225 lira in comparison to the same month of 2022 and reached 4,048 liras.

The required expenditure for dried legumes increased by 19 lira compared to the previous month and by 94 lira compared to the same month last year, reaching 303 lira. While the necessary expenses for milk, yogurt and cheese increased by 114 lira compared to the previous month and reached 3,242 lira, in the last year there was an increase of 1,223 lira.

The amount of money allocated to fruits increased by 125 lira in September and by 761 lira compared to the same month last year, reaching 1,364 lira. Spending on vegetables decreased by 22 lira compared to the previous month and increased by 972 lira compared to the same month last year, reaching 1,848 lira.

Spending required for products such as bread, flour and pasta increased by 28 lira to 1,316 lira in September, and spending on rice and bulgur increased by 17 lira to 631 lira. The necessary expenditure on oil increased by 38 liras, reaching 432.1 liras. Necessary spending on foodstuffs such as sugar, honey, molasses and jam increased by 130 lira in September, reaching 116 lira. The same family’s spending on olives increased to 342 lire.

THE HUNGER LIMIT OF AN ADULT MAN IS 4 THOUSAND 246 LIRAS

According to the calculation made based on 2,800 calories for adult men, 2,200 calories for adult women, 3,000 calories for young people and 1,600 calories for children, the hunger limit in September is 4,246 liras for adult men, 3,333 liras for adult women, 3,333 liras for children, 2,420 liras for young people and 4,543 liras for young people.

In September, expenses on clothing and shoes for four people increased to 1,377 lira, expenses on accommodation (including rent) increased to 5,199 lira, expenses on household items increased to 3,577 lira, and expenses on health increased to 1,170 lira .

Transportation expenses increased to 9.42 liras, communications expenses to 967 liras, entertainment and culture expenses to 879 liras, education expenses to 520 liras, vacation hotel expenses to 2,799 liras, and expenses on various goods and services at 1,578 liras.
