EU extends sanctions against Russia
The European Union (EU) decided to extend the sanctions imposed on Russian individuals and organizations for six months.
The EU Council statement states that it was decided to extend individual restrictive measures aimed at those who threaten the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine for another six months.
The statement noted that the sanctions, which include travel bans, asset freezes and prohibitions on transferring funds or economic resources, against approximately 1,800 people and institutions, were extended until March 15, 2024, and it was recalled that the majority Many of these sanctions were imposed due to the war in Ukraine.
4 PEOPLE WERE REMOVED FROM THE LIST
The statement indicated that as a result of the evaluation it was decided to remove 4 people from the sanctions list.
Many of these individuals and organizations were placed on the sanctions list after Russia launched an attack against Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
So far, the EU has applied 11 packages of sanctions against Russia due to the war.
In this context, a wide range of restrictions were imposed on Russia, including trade, finance, energy, industry, technology, transportation, dual-use and luxury goods, including oil, coal and gold.
This decision is considered one of the most important sanctions adopted by the EU after Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
This EU decision aims to send a message to end the war by increasing pressure on Russia. (AA)
