Australian High Court finds Qantas layoffs illegal

Australia’s High Court found Qantas’ layoffs during the Covid-19 outbreak unlawful and unanimously rejected the company’s appeal.

The Federal Court ruled that Qantas unlawfully dismissed 1,700 ground handling staff at 10 airports.

The company stated that it carried out layoffs during a period of 90 percent reduction under Covid-19 measures.

The Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of the airline company Qantas, found guilty of “unlawfully” dismissing 1,700 ground handling employees during the Covid-19 epidemic in Australia.

According to ABC News, the company announced that it wanted to reach an agreement with the union over compensation to be paid to victimized workers and apologized to the victimized workers and their families. (AA)
