The EU will continue confiscating cars from Russia

The Commission of the European Union (EU) announced that the vehicles or personal effects of those arriving from Russia to member countries will be confiscated.

European Commission spokesperson Daniel Sheridan Ferrie made statements on the implementation of sanctions against Russia at the daily press conference in Brussels.

Ferrie recalled that the EU accepted 11 packages of sanctions against Russia. He recalled that within the framework of these sanctions, a ban on the import of certain products from Russia was imposed.

Ferrie said: “We have a ban on importing many products from Russia. These products are on our sanctions list. “The cars are subject to an import ban and cannot enter the EU,” she said.

Noting that the confiscation of Russian tourists’ cars upon entering EU countries is not new, Ferrie stressed that this ban has existed for a long time.

Ferrie stated that customs authorities in EU countries must fully comply with the rules, especially regarding cars and valuables.

11 PACKAGES OF SANCTIONS ANNOUNCED

So far, the EU has implemented 11 sanctions packages against Russia.

In this context, a wide range of restrictions were imposed on Russia, including trade, finance, energy, industry, technology, transportation, dual-use and luxury goods, including oil, coal and gold. The assets of more than a thousand people and more than 200 institutions were frozen.

According to EU sanctions, Russians cannot take various products such as cars, cosmetics, computers, smartphones, precious stones and furs with them during their tourist visits to the union countries. These products are confiscated by EU customs.

Ferrie noted that one of the duties of the EU Commission is to ensure that sanctions are applied in the same way throughout the EU. For this reason, she explained that they periodically prepare guides for member countries on how to apply sanctions.

Ferrie noted that existing sanctions have not changed, saying that “EU sanctions aim to deprive Russia of the revenue it needs to finance the war.” (AA)
