CHP Aydın Deputy Evrim Karakoz presented a bill to abolish SCT and VAT on fuel used in public transport vehicles. CHP Aydın Deputy Evrim Karakoz claimed that the price of diesel fuel, which was 19 lira on May 14, exceeded 37 lira in 4 months and said: “Due to the increase in fuel prices, fuel services public transportation provided by municipalities have entered a difficult period.”

Karakoz of CHP, who proposed the abolition of SCT and VAT on fuel used in public transport vehicles by modifying article 7/A of the Special Consumption Tax Law No. 4760 and article 17 of the Value Tax Law Addendum No. 3065, with the bill presented to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. He used the following statements.

INCREASED FROM 19 LIRA TO 37 LIRA

– The price of a liter of diesel, which was around 19 lira just before May 14, 2023, exceeded 37 lira on September 8, 2023. Due to the increase in fuel prices, public transport services provided by municipalities They have entered a difficult period. The constant increase in fuel prices has caused economic difficulties for local governments and severely affected their limited budgets.

– Schools have opened. To ease the transportation burden for students and parents, VAT and Excise Tax should not be charged on fuel used in municipal buses and public transportation vehicles, and the discount should be immediately reflected in transportation fares.

THE TRANSPORTATION FEE SHOULD RELIEVE CITIZENS

Noting that the increase in public transport fares puts citizens in an even more difficult situation, Karakoz continued:

– Following increases in public transportation, money spent by those commuting to work on public transportation has increased significantly. Our citizens can only cope with this situation by reducing transport costs. This is achieved through discounts on transportation prices by municipalities that provide public transportation services.

– The only way out for both citizens and local governments; The SCT and VAT on fuel purchased for public transport vehicles are eliminated to zero. It is necessary to make legal regulation for this. The regulation to be approved will significantly contribute to the public transport service in overcoming the crisis it faces due to exorbitant fuel prices and will also pave the way for our citizens to use public transport more economically.
