Taşpınar stated that the grain harvest season has come to an end and the yields of wheat and barley meet expectations.

Taşpınar stated that the droughts that occurred at the end of last year and continued in the first months of this year are worrying: “These droughts were recorded as the second dry winter in the last 63 years. “With regular rains in March and the following months, cereal yields exceeded the long-term average and 21.5 million tons of wheat were obtained throughout the country.” saying.

Taşpınar explained that there are plant diseases in regions that receive excessive rain in spring, so although there are some decreases in quality, there is not much of a problem.

9 MILLION TONS IN BARLEY PRODUCTION REACHED

Reminding that the average yield for many years was around 20 million tons of wheat and 8 million tons of barley, Taşpınar said: “Wheat production in this year’s harvest season has significantly exceeded the average of many years. . “We have reached a figure of 9 million tons of barley, something we had never reached before.” he said.

Taşpınar emphasized that the support provided to farmers played an important role in obtaining these figures:

“The announcement that grain prices met expectations both last year and this year made farmers, traders and industrialists happy. Therefore, a certain increase in the planting area was achieved last year. In addition to the 21.5 million tons of wheat obtained, between 8 and 9 million tons are also imported. Therefore, there were wheat stocks of about 30 million tons. Although we use 20 million tons for domestic consumption, we process and export the rest in the form of flour, cookies, pasta, bulgur, halva or semolina.” (AA)
