Flights canceled in Italy due to aeronautical sector strike
According to the Italian press, the ground handling workers, at the request of the unions of the aeronautical sector (Flai Trasporti, Fit-Cisl), have started a 24-hour strike today because the collective agreement has not been renewed for 6 years .
There were also protests against salary increases and working conditions, which were considered inadequate and incompatible with the strike.
Due to the strike of the employees of the aeronautical sector, today there were some interruptions in air transport.
The places most affected by the strike were the Milan airports. 60 flights at Milan’s main Malpensa airport and 20 at another airport, Linate, were canceled due to the strike.
The Italian airline ITA announced that it canceled 30 domestic flights scheduled for today at the Fiumicino airport in the capital, Rome.
In a statement issued yesterday by the THY Press Office, it was reported that flights TK 1878 Milan-Istanbul, TK 1873-74 Istanbul-Milan-Istanbul and TK 1895-96 Istanbul-Milan-Istanbul were cancelled.
It is claimed that if the strike continues, there may be further disruption to air transport. (AA)
