The price of the first fish of the season has been announced
After the hunting ban in Rize, anchovy, whiting and horse mackerel were the most common at fishing stalls. Horse mackerel and anchovy are sold at 100 lire per kilo, and red mullet and marlin at 200 lire.
The general ban on fishing with bottom trawlers and purse seines, which began on April 15, ended on September 1. The fishermen said ‘Vira bismillah’ and took their nets to the sea.
While fishermen’s nets that opened the season caught horse mackerel, whiting and a small amount of marlin, fishermen operating in the Central Black Sea caught the first anchovy of the year. Horse mackerel and anchovy sold for 100 lira, red mullet and marlin sold for 200 lira, while butts and shad sold for 50 lira.
‘THE SEA WATER NEEDS TO COOL DOWN’
Fisherman Nezvat Çoruh affirmed that anchovies will be plentiful as the weather turns colder, saying: “Anchovies are abundant in the Black Sea this year, but we are a bit worried about bonito. But anchovies, haddock and horse mackerel abound. Sea water needs to cool down a bit. At the moment there are not many fish. But after a week, when the weather turns colder, the anchovies will be plentiful,” he said.
Mehmet Avcı, who came to buy fish, said: “It is fish season. We came to buy fish when we saw you come to the counter today. Our favourite; anchovy. Other fish are also good, but the anchovy has a different place”.
Sibel Avcı said: “The season has started. I love fish. Fish is something else at Rize. I hope we have a lot of this this year. My favorite is the sargan fish,” she said. (DHA)
