Credit card use skyrocketed
Statistics published by the Interbank Card Center (BKM) for the month of July revealed a strong increase in card spending.
Consequently, in July, the number of credit cards in Turkey was 109.8 million, debit 181.1 million and prepaid 81 million.
Compared to July 2022, there was a 19 percent increase in the number of credit cards, a 14 percent increase in the number of debit cards, and a 24 percent increase in the number of prepaid cards.
The total number of cards reached 371.9 million, an increase of 18 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
618 BILLION TRY 753 BILLION CARD PAYMENT WITH CREDIT CARD
In July, 1.4 billion card payment transactions were made, for an amount of 753 billion Turkish liras.
While 618.4 billion TL card payments were made with credit cards, 122.1 billion TL were used with debit cards and 12 billion TL with prepaid cards.
The total amount of payments made with credit, debit and prepaid cards in July increased by 138 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached TL 752.5 billion.
TRACKED BANK CARDS
Compared to the same period last year, the growth rate was 149 percent for payments made with credit cards, 96 percent for payments made with debit cards, and 105 percent for payments made with prepaid cards.
The total number of payments made with credit, debit and prepaid cards in July increased 32 percent compared to the same period a year earlier and amounted to 1.4 billion.
While 787 million card payments were made with credit cards, 516 million of those were debit cards and 84 million were prepaid cards.
The growth rate in the number of payments made with credit cards was 34 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, and 30 percent in the number of payments made with debit cards, while this rate was 27 percent on the number of payments made. with prepaid cards. (AA, SOZCU)
