‘Fuel hikes will increase inflation in August’
CHP Vice President Ahmet Akın stated that fuel is the main input in transportation and transportation, and that price increases in fuel will further increase inflation.
In his written statement, Akın stated that fuel prices in Turkey increased due to wrong economic policy.
Emphasizing that the price of gasoline and diesel has doubled in the last three months, Akın continued:
The opinion that the reason for the increase in fuel prices is the effect of international markets does not reflect the truth. The price of Brent oil, which is the determining factor of fuel prices in Turkey, stood at the level of 78 dollars on May 14 and is currently trading at 84 dollars. In other words, while the Brent oil price increase was limited to 7.6 percent, the fuel price in Turkey increased by almost 100 percent. When these data are taken into account, it is revealed that the biggest reason for the increase in fuel prices is the depreciation of the Turkish lira.
‘INFLATION RISES’
“Current economic data shows that this increase will continue. Fuel increases cause an increase in production costs, since it is a basic input in all sectors, especially in transport and maritime transport. The increase in production costs is reflected in market, market and shelf prices as an increase. In other words, fuel increases will create a ripple effect on inflation. An increase of approximately 6 lire in the price of a liter of fuel caused a record inflation in July. Price increases in August will push inflation further.
IT CAN EXCEED 50 LIRA IN AUTUMN
While gasoline and diesel prices have doubled in three months, current economic data shows this increase will continue. As the Turkish lira continues to depreciate, fuel prices will rise further. It is claimed that especially in the upcoming autumn period, fuel prices may exceed 50 lira. (AA, ANKA)
