The EU filled 90% of the gas tanks
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the Commission of the European Union (EU), stated that the occupancy rate of natural gas storage in the member countries of the Union exceeds 90 percent and this will contribute to the security of energy supply in the winter period.
Von der Leyen shared on the account of the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, about the fullness of the EU’s petrol tanks.
Von der Leyen, who used the phrase “EU gas storages reached 90 percent well ahead of schedule”, claimed that the stored gas will contribute to the security of energy supply in the winter period.
Von der Leyen pointed out that they gave up on Russian gas and affirmed that they continue to work to increase the diversity of energy sources.
According to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe, as of today, the occupancy rate of natural gas stores in member countries stands at the level of 90.12 percent.
GOAL ACHIEVED 2.5 MONTHS AGO
The EU countries, which consume approximately 400 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year in normal periods, have a natural gas storage capacity of up to 110 billion cubic meters.
Before the Russia-Ukraine War, EU countries imported 40 percent of Russia’s natural gas. With the war, Russia’s natural gas shipments to the EU fell to 8 percent.
With the start of the war, the countries of the Union had elaborated legal norms that would force the underground tanks to be filled with natural gas until the winter months.
In this context, it was planned to reach 90 percent occupancy in gasoline tanks by November 1 of this year. With the latest level reached, the EU has achieved its target about 2.5 months ago (YY)
