Poverty limit reached 40 thousand TL

United Metal-İş Research Center (BİSAM) announced the hunger and poverty line data for July 2023.

Consequently, the hunger limit, which expresses the amount spent per month for a healthy and balanced diet for a family of four, was increased to TL 11,525 in July.

The poverty line, which covers all the monthly expenses of a family, such as rent, bills, transport, education, health and clothing, increased to TL 39,886 in July.

According to BİSAM data, in July 2022, the hunger limit was 6,856 TL and the poverty line was 23,715 TL. In other words, the annual rate of increase in the poverty line was 68.2 percent.

A MINIMUM WAGE IS NOT ENOUGH FOR A HEALTHY DIET

According to BİSAM data, the monthly equivalent of food that an adult man should consume for a healthy and balanced diet was calculated at 3,191 TL.

While this value was 3,031 TL for an adult woman, it was 3,235 lira for a 15- to 18-year-old girl and 2,609 lira for a 4- to 6-year-old boy.

The cost of a healthy diet for the total family budget was determined at 11,525 lira.

385 LIRA ARE SPENT DAILY ON FOOD

The most expensive consumption item among food expenses of 385 lira per day was the group of milk and dairy products with 116.31 lira.

It was followed by the meat, chicken and fish group with 77.82 TL; The necessary daily expenditure for vegetables and fruits reached 89.45 lira in July.

While the amount of spending required for bread was 33.38 lira per day, fat and oil were the product groups that required 20.03 lira to spend.
