2.8 million people changed province in 2022
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the ‘Internal Migration Statistics’ data for 2022.
Consequently, the population migration rate between provinces, which was 3.18 percent in the 2007-2008 period, became 3.27 percent in 2022, following a fluctuating course over the years.
In 2022, 2,791,156 people migrated between provinces in Turkey. 47.9 percent of this population were men and 52.1 percent were women.
THE MOST IMMIGRANTS RECEIVE AND THE PROVINCES ARE THE SAME
Considering the distribution of the migrant population among provinces in Turkey, Istanbul was the province that received the most immigration with 385,294 people.
Ankara was followed by Ankara with 189,104 people and Izmir with 132,426 people respectively.
The provinces that received the least immigration were Ardahan with 5,391 people, Bayburt with 7,031 people and Kilis with 8,008 people, respectively.
It was seen that Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, which are the provinces that receive the most immigration, are also the provinces that send the most immigrants. While Istanbul is the city that gives the most immigrants with 418 thousand 82 people in the first place; Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 161,912 inhabitants and Izmir with 107,312 inhabitants.
The provinces with the lowest immigration were Tunceli with 7,578 inhabitants, Kilis with 7,629 inhabitants and Ardahan with 8,157 inhabitants, respectively.
THE MOST MIGRANT WAS THE GROUP FROM 20 TO 24 YEARS OLD
In Turkey, in 2022, the highest migratory mobility in terms of size was in the 20-24 age group with 643,998 people.
42.5 percent of immigrants in that age group were male and 57.5 percent were female.
When the reason for migration of the 20-24 age group, which is the age group with the highest migratory mobility, was examined, it was seen that the most important reason for this mobility was education. 257 thousand 676 of the immigrants in the aforementioned age group migrated for education, 91 thousand 612 to start/find work and 50,338 for better living and housing conditions.
REASONS FOR MIGRATION
In our country, 591,790 of the 2,791,156 people who migrated between provinces in 2022 migrated dependent on one of the household members.
When the other reasons for migration were examined, it was seen that 526 thousand 8 people migrated for education and 479 thousand 250 people for better living and housing conditions.
When the reasons for migration in Turkey in 2022 by gender were analyzed, it was observed that both men and women experienced migratory mobility mostly depending on one of the household members.
237 thousand 574 people migrated in men and 354 thousand 216 people in women dependent on a member of the household.
