The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the Labor Force Statistics for June 2023.

According to the results of the Household Workforce Survey; The number of unemployed aged 15 and over increased by 2,000 in June 2023 compared to the previous month and reached 3,337,000 people.

The unemployment rate, on the other hand, increased by 0.1 percentage point to 9.6 percent. While the unemployment rate was 7.8 percent for men, it was estimated to be 13.2 percent for women.

EMPLOYMENT RATE 47.8 PERCENT

The number of employed people decreased by 363,000 people in June 2023 compared to the previous month and went to 31,291,000 people, while the employment rate decreased 0.6 points to 47.8 percent. While this rate was 65.2 percent for men, it was 30.8 percent for women.

In June 2023, the labor force decreased by 359 thousand people with respect to the previous month and went to 34 million 629 thousand people, while the labor participation rate decreased 0.6 points to 52.9 percent. While the labor force participation rate was 70.7 percent for men, it was 35.5 percent for women.

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT 18.6 PERCENT

The unemployment rate among the young population between 15 and 24 years old increased by 1.2 percentage points compared to the previous month and became 18.6 percent. Unemployment rate in this age group; It was estimated to be 15.4 percent in men and 24.2 percent in women.

The effective average weekly working day of the employed during the reference period, corrected for seasonal and calendar effects, increased by 0.7 hours to 44.6 hours in June 2023 compared to the previous month.

WIDE UNEMPLOYMENT 24.2 PERCENT

The idle labor force rate, made up of underemployment due to insufficient hours, potential labor force and the unemployed, reached 24.2 percent in June, up 1.7 percentage points from the previous month.

While the combined rate of underemployment due to insufficient hours and unemployment was 16.6 percent, the combined rate of unemployment and potential labor force was estimated at 17.9 percent.
