China’s new tourism decision: it also worries Turkey
China has lifted a ban on organizing tourist trips to more than 70 countries. The decision boosted travel and airline stocks in Asia.
China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism said Thursday that group tours will resume to a total of 79 regions in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa and North America.
Chinese government-approved regions include India, Pakistan, Qatar, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Turkey, Israel, Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
TOURIST MOBILITY CAN INCREASE
According to the ministry statement, the resumption of group tours will come to life immediately today. It was indicated that the new application is valid for all travel agencies and online platforms throughout the country.
The decision is expected to speed up the recovery of the global tourism industry, which was stalled due to a resurgence in convoys in China, one of the world’s biggest sources of tourism before the Covid-19 era.
THE NUMBER OF CHINESE TOURISTS COMING TO TURKEY HAS CONSTANTLY DECLINED
Before the Corona virus outbreak, the number of Chinese tourists arriving in Turkey was close to 500 thousand. However, the number of Chinese tourists who came to Turkey after the epidemic dropped sharply.
The number of Chinese tourists arriving in Turkey increased to 314,000 in 2015. In 2016, this number dropped to 168,000. The number of Chinese tourists coming to Turkey, which increased again from 2017, was announced at 426 thousand in 2019.
After the epidemic, this number decreased to 40,264 in 2020 and 33,641 in 2021, while in 2022 this figure was 89,515. In the first 6 months of 2023, a total of 88,965 tourists arrived.
