Koca’s explanation of drug prices

Announcement of the Minister of Health on prices of medicines

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca made a statement on the increase in the euro exchange rate used in the price of medicines.

Speaking after the cabinet meeting yesterday, Koca said: “The exchange rate update was done on drug prices. The exchange rate was updated once a year. We have an application of 60 percent of the previous year’s rate. However, since two years ago, we have decided to update it every 6 months to protect our national producer and avoid problems in the supply of medicines.

“Therefore, we update the Turkish lira equivalent of the euro exchange rate to 10.75 in January. We have now updated the exchange rate of TL to 14.1 euros,” Koca said, adding: “We accept euros at 14.1 lira when we buy medicines. As you know today, the euro rate is in the 30s in the real sector.”

“There are enough vaccines in stock”

Koca also made statements regarding the allegations that the hepatitis A vaccine is not in stock.

“This is absolutely not true. We have 200,000 vaccines in our stocks,” Koca said, continuing:

“In addition, 400,000 vaccines will enter our warehouses. As you know, we will transfer technology to localize three vaccines. One of these three vaccines is the hepatitis A vaccine.

In addition to the vaccines to be produced in Hıfzıssıhha, three new production centers for three vaccines will be established through technology transfer. Chickenpox, rabies, and hepatitis A will be localized by this method. We are very close to this stage. Until then, we have enough vaccines in stock. There is no problem with this. Let’s not worry.” (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
