The Customs Control teams of the Ministry of Commerce did not allow the smuggling of goods worth 8 billion lira in the first half of the year.
According to the compilation made by the AA correspondent based on data from the Ministry, the Customs Control teams seized 7 thousand 749 million 944 thousand liras of contraband goods in 2021.
Last year, the teams seized 11.960 million 735 thousand lira worth of contraband goods, an increase of 54 percent.
In the period January-June this year, the teams carried out an illegal merchandise operation worth 7,954,598,000 liras.
Electronic items ranked first among seized contraband goods. During this period, contraband electronic goods worth 2,856,193,000 lire were seized.
OPPO GUM, COCAINE, METH
The value of the illegal vehicles seized in the first 6 months of the year was 1,754,711,000 lire.
While the teams seized a record amount of substances in the fight against drugs, heroin, opium gum, morphine base, cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, captagon, skunk and khat were prevented from entering the country.
Customs Control teams seized 5.3 tons of different types of drugs in the first half of the year.
ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO PRODUCTS ARE HIGH
Alcohol and tobacco products were another notable item after the operations of electronic goods and drugs. In the first half of the year, the teams confiscated 463 million 426 thousand lire of alcohol and tobacco products.
Customs control teams prevented the illegal entry into the country of 319 million 708 thousand liras of machinery and equipment in the first 6 months.
During said period, Customs Control teams seized contraband precious metals worth 199 million 227 thousand lira, while the value of seized textile products was recorded at 159 million 556 thousand lira.
Last year, 67,352,964 lira in foreign currency were also among the items confiscated at the customs gates.
THERE ARE ALSO 40.6 MILLION TL OF ILLEGAL FOOD PRODUCTS
The teams prevented illegal food products worth 40 million 666 thousand lira from entering the country last year.
The teams seized 34 million 176 thousand lira worth of medical items during their operations.
During this period, the smuggling of chemicals worth 11 million 426 thousand liras and the smuggling of fuel worth 8 million 147 thousand liras were prevented. Diesel and fuel oil stood out in the seized fuel products.
The teams also secured the apprehension of 1,429 illegal immigrants in the 6-month period of the year.
On the other hand, the operations also seized 649,185 packs of cigarettes, 78,974 kilograms of tea and 44,269 mobile phones. (AA)
