Erdogan explained: Grief coming to stop house prices
President Tayyip Erdoğan answered questions from journalists on the plane after his tour of the Gulf, which included Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Speaking about the rapidly rising house prices and rents due to the government’s economic policies, Erdoğan said he would impose sanctions, noting that taxes could also be imposed on vacant houses.
“I want to ask a question about high rents. Industry representatives say that there are only 100 thousand idle houses in Istanbul, unfinished, unfinished. Can they be brought to industry? Empty houses also affect rental prices. There is information that some countries charge high taxes on vacant houses. Could something like this happen in Türkiye too? When asked, Erdogan gave the following response:
“Now, our Ministry has a study on the subject. In this study, we will go beyond them. Then there will be no snow for them.
If necessary, we will also apply sanctions to stop the skyrocketing of rents and house prices. We cannot sacrifice our citizens to the greed of a greedy few. Homeowners, who covet the price increases we make so as not to reduce the purchasing power of our citizens and not to squash inflation, will have to pay the price. You will be punished for your behavior that leads to exorbitant price increases and upsets the balance of the market.”
